The Ordinary is officially open.
Thank you to everyone who packed the gallery last Thursday night — for sitting with the work, talking with the artists, and bringing exactly the kind of warmth this show was built to hold. The exhibition rests on a simple premise: that being queer is ordinary, not a spectacle, just life being lived. Watching that idea fill a room made for an unforgettable opening. The show is on view through June 30, and we have a full month of programming ahead — including two singles mingles set inside the exhibition itself. The Ordinary, Up Close
House of Cards — Patrick Webb
Yale-trained and exhibiting since 1990, Webb has spent three decades following Punchinello — an “everygayman” clown — through queer life. Here, he and a companion build something deliberately fragile by a window. Oil and metal leaf on canvas, 48 × 24 in. $15,000.
Belladonna Suspended — Veronica Wolfgang
A second-generation metalsmith with no formal art training, Wolfgang suspends a fiberglass torso in a crocheted cocoon that branches into root-like tendrils — a body caught mid-metamorphosis. Crochet, woven cotton, fiberglass and steel, 84 × 30 × 30 in. $12,000.
II. Division — Creed Bauman
Bauman fits actual plaster wings to a pair of entwined nudes — the body mid-transformation, caught in its own becoming. Chalk pastel on birch panel with wooden dowels, wire, and plaster strips, 17 × 11.5 × 4 in. $1,500.
Self Portrait — Leo Pontius
Brooklyn-based and community-taught, Pontius weaves a self portrait from cut strips of painted canvas that unravel and spill out of an antique frame — identity coming apart in plain view. Canvas, acrylic and wood, 45 × 18 × 6 in. $5,000.
