Ten rooms arranged down to the last tile, with the comfort in each one manufactured in plain view — sunscreen, a charging cable, a gold chain, plastic flowers. His figures are barefoot, calm to the point of sedation, and not one of them is looking.
Venus arrives in the backyard, and she brings a mat and SPF 30. Kneeling in the dandelions with her arms out and her eyes shut, the light doing all the work behind her — the oldest pose in painting, staged on a picnic blanket.
A white robe on a bare floor, hair still wet, sun cutting across the wall. Within reach: a stack of books with TIME on top, a wristwatch face-up, a phone reading 8:12 on its cord. Three ways to know the hour, and her eyes are closed.
Twenty inches square. Plastic daisies lifted to be smelled, one earbud in, a chain over the wrist, a cigarette burning down in the other hand. Every object in the frame is sold as calm.

Fourteen years underground, and not one face. Flattened color, controlled perspective, deliberate omission — what is left is posture, and posture turns out to be the entire vocabulary of waiting.
Bergen Street, an exit sign, teal columns running off into the dark. A man holds a child on his lap on the platform bench. In nine paintings of this city, this is the only touch.
Broadway–Lafayette, seen from the far platform across the black trench of the roadbed. One rider on the bench, one backpack, blue sneakers, and a station built for hundreds. Her largest size in the show, and the emptiest.
Two strangers share a bench and neither one knows it; the columns cut both of them in half. The title describes where you are standing, not where they are.

For one night, Dr. Viviane Trinh opens her Fifth Avenue rooms for a viewing of my own paintings — a dozen works from the Luminous Currents and Deep State series, joined by a group of small canvases debuting that night. The setting is the point: the work seen the way people actually live with it. Wine and light refreshments.

Foundations 2026, Artsy's online art fair · through August 21
If Tuesday will not work, the same studio is online for five more days. A small group of oils painted in Bushwick in 2025 — thin wet-on-wet veils resolving into light, dissolving edges, color against darkness — organized and hosted by Artsy at Foundations 2026. The fair closes Friday.
