Cécile Roberfroid's solo exhibition, Carried, Not Told, opens this Thursday at Collective Z. These are paintings and works on paper made between 2024 and this summer, shown together for the first time.

Cécile Roberfroid's paintings change while you look at them. What reads as weather, rose and olive and ochre worked in and scraped back, turns out to be holding someone. Nothing is announced. The question behind all of it is hers: what do we carry without ever saying it out loud?
This year Cécile had a solo exhibition at the European Delegation to the United Nations in New York. Before that came solo shows at Geary Gallery in Darien, Arbor Gallery and the Rye Arts Center, and second place in the Stamford Art Association's Faber Birren National Color Show. She trained at the School of Visual Arts, holds graduate degrees in psychology and art therapy from Columbia and NYU, and is president of the board of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild.

Inside Out and Outside In are the same two people painted twice, holding on to each other in a dark made of scraped and dragged white. The color is gone, and the embrace is all that is left.
